Psychology and Sport Science

Laura Walsh
Registered Psychologist

Laura holds a Master's degree in Psychology and sports science from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Counselling degree from Monash University in Australia. She is currently working on her Doctorate with a focus on the interplay between psychotherapy and psychedelics, within a therapeutic framework. She holds licenses for psychology and clinical counselling with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). She is also a registered Hypnotherapist with the Canadian Hypnotherapy Association and a licensed EMDR therapist and sports psychologist with CSPA.

Laura’s approach is holistic, and client-centred, and uses unconditional positive regard for her clients. She operates and practices through a lens of non-judgment and acceptance and seeks awareness, reflection, and feedback in the services she offers. She draws from several therapeutic models, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassionate Inquiry (CI), hypnosis and mindfulness and also has specialized training in the treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress, in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Most recently having completed the Psychedelic Integration Therapy training with the MIND Foundation, a European organization seeking to create a more connected world through evidence-based, safe and legal applications of psychedelic experiences, she now offers breath work as well as preparation and integration of altered states of consciousness.

“Regardless of the mode of therapy, I believe the most important element of this work is the therapeutic relationship that develops between myself and the client. This applies whether my clients are struggling with anxiety, or depression, or are dealing with grief, loss, unresolved trauma, and unhealthy behaviours such as avoidance, rage or substance misuse. The magic happens after the trust is created”.
